Storyboarding and Presentation work
Today Grace and Megan carried on creating the storyboard, we have tried to include shots that keep the audience guessing about what's going on and what's going to happen next. We are also trying to create tension and a creepy atmosphere. Tom and Bradley completed the pitch for our film and carried on with research by watching chainsaw massacre. Also Tom and Megan took photos for the location in the priory woods, these pictures are included in the presentation. We are going to continue to develop our storyboard.

halloween opening scene analysis
the opening credits writing changes between the colors orange and red, the orange symbolizes halloween and the red symbolizes blood, the background os black, this symbolizes death and darkness.
also there is a pumpkin in the background which gradually larger, creating the effect that it is getting closer.
the 2 production company is "compass international pictures release" and "moustapa akhad". the main actor is Donald Pleasance, and is directed by john carpenter, and producer is deborah hill.
the opening scene is mainly one continuous point of view shot (POV), until the end where it reveals who the killer is, there is also the effect of a mask which makes it more realistic. when the knife was picked up, the visuals are blurred, so you cant identify that it is a child. the opening sequence and credits add up too about 7 minutes.
there is music but is very quiet and in a high pitch, it gets suddenly louder when he enters the bedroom.
at the end you see the killer as he is unmasked, this creates a dramatic effect as he is a child, the camera also zooms out and goes up.

The Ring Analysis
The camera angles of the girl coming up the stairs are low angle shot of her feet as they walk towards us. Also close ups of her face and hand at the door these are all used to create tension. Once she's opened the door the camera cuts to the t.v and then we zoom into her face and special effects are used to manipulate her face and then it cuts to white noise and the titles start. the editing pace increases as tension is built up, and it goes in time with the music. Silence is used to create suspense.
The titles: in this sequence the font used was handwritten/childlike which reflects the mood of the film. the screen is black and the writing is in white and fades out leaving a ring behind which represents the ring in the film. The titles cut between images of chairs, trees, water, blood and the well which are all images from the tape in the film. at the end of the title sequence it cuts to white noise. The titles that came up were the production company name Dreamworks, the directors name Gore Verbinski, the title of the film, editors, producers, casting directors, composer, production design, director of photography and the actors. The music starts off with a high pitch screaming and then goes into a heavy base music, it speeds up with the pace of the film, also children's laughter can be heard by the end of the sequence this links the the film plot . The editing also gets faster as the titles come to an end.

In todays meeting we discussed our ideas for our final piece, we have decided to create a slasher horror opening scene. we researched some horror films and looked closely at the conventions. Our story is about a murderer who is out to kill people, its set in the woods which will create tension. We have decided to start the scene going straight into the action to grab the audiences attention. Close up camera angles and music will all be used to add to the tension we are going to create. The characters will be classic horror film cliques.
We are going to continue to research into the horror genre.
